Eva Longoria Parker Signs On for Harvest

NEW YORK: Shine Global has teamed up with Hollywood actress Eva Longoria Parker for the documentary film project Harvest, which focuses on the plight of the child farm workers whose efforts help feed America.

Parker will serve as executive producer for the new doc, which is expected to be completed in early 2010. The film presents the stories of a select number of children and their families as they travel from their homes in California, Texas and Florida to harvest crops in multiple states. Despite tough obstacles, many of these children succeed in scoring college scholarships through the College Assistance Migrant Program.

"Eva is not only a successful actress but a social activist with a long-standing interest in both migrant worker concerns and the plight of children," said Albie Hecht, the co-founder of Shine Global and president of Worldwide Biggies. "She was eager to contribute to Harvest because it addresses both concerns. Like us, Eva believes in the power of documentary as a means to give children a voice through film."

"It is a cruel irony that the families and children that feed and clothe us often don’t have enough food or money to feed and clothe themselves and continue to be discriminated against legally in America today," added director/producer U. Roberto (Robin) Romano. "The fact that any of them succeed is a testament to their character and values."
