European Broadcasting Union Elects New President, VP

BUDAPEST, July 7: Jean-Paul Philippot of RTBF in Belgium has
been elected as president of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), with
Richard Sambrook of the BBC selected as the VP.

The election took place in Budapest during the union’s
general assembly, which was organized by Hungary’s Magyar Televízió.

Philippot will succeed the current president, Fritz Pleitgen
of Germany, whose term will conclude at the end of this year. Sambrook will
replace Boris Bergant of RTVLSO in Slovenia.

Philippot has been the general administrator of RTBF since
February 2002. Sambrook has been the director of BBC Global News since 2004,
where he is responsible for the World Service, BBC World TV News and
international online services. Sambrook served as the director of BBC News from
2001 to 2004.
