Duets, Common Law, The Money Pump Among Top TV Shows in Social Media

GENEVA: The U.S. singing competition Duets and the Indian talk show Satyamev Jayate were cited among the top 10 series trending in social media in a new report from The WIT (World Information Tracking).

The WIT tracks nearly 60,000 shows in its database, with 650 new ones being added every month. Its Witspotter service offers social TV analytics, tracking the buzz around TV shows.

Its latest report reveals the top 10 trending shows in social media. Topping the list, Duets, a new singing competition on ABC in the U.S., amassed more than 200,000 Likes on Facebook and more than 10,000 Twitter followers prior to its launch, making it the most anticipated unscripted U.S. show of 2012 thus far in social media. Satyamev Jayate (Truth Alone Prevails), a talk show developed by Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan for STAR Plus in India, had 549,000 Likes on the day of its premiere, and added another 50,000 with its debut. On Twitter, its popularity grew 105 percent in one day. Satyamev Jayate was the most commented on new show of the month, worldwide, according to the witER ranking. Rounding out the top 3, The Weight of the Nation, a four-part documentary series available free on HBO’s YouTube channel, was the most anticipated factual show in social media. Before its launch, the series already had 30,000 Facebook Likes and nearly 4,000 Twitter followers.

Also in factual, My Big Fat Fetish, a Channel 4 series, was the most commented on premiere in Europe. Channel 4’s multiplatform Foxes Live also made the list, capping off the top 5. 

From Italy, Quello Che (Non) Ho, a cultural entertainment show co-hosted by popular journalist/writer Roberto Saviano (Gomorra) on La7, was the most commented premiere worldwide last month. The game show The Money Pump, on Channel 2 in Israel, was the fastest growing show on Facebook worldwide in the same month.

The list continues with the USA Network police comedy Common Law, which ranks as the most anticipated series of the season on Facebook. The sci-fi series Continuum, on Showcase Canada, was the most commented new scripted show of the year in Canada.

Also making the list, at number 10, is Soltera Otra Vez, the Chilean version of the romantic sitcom Date Blind. The series, which aired on Canal 13, was the third most commented scripted show of the month worldwide.
