Doctor Who Season Opener Delivers for BBC America

NEW YORK: The first episode of the new season of the hit sci-fi show Doctor Who is BBC America’s highest-rated, most-watched telecast ever for live plus same-day viewing.

The premiere on April 23 drew in nearly 1.3 million viewers. For total audience, the channel was up 71,000 viewers from its previous best, for last season’s opening episode of Doctor Who in April 2010.

Viewership across all of BBC America’s Doctor Who YouTube content was also at an all-time high, with 3.5 million viewers. The show is currently the number one series on the iTunes Store as well. BBCAmerica.com scored its largest traffic ever, with 74 percent of users on April 23 being new visitors to the site.

The series airs every Saturday at 9 p.m.
