Disney Inks Online Deal in Korea

HONG KONG: Disney-ABC International Television (DAIT) Asia Pacific, and Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment have clinched a deal to make a range of current and library features from the studio available for online purchase or rental from Nowcom.

Nowcom is one of the leading online companies in Korea, where the broadband penetration rate is some 90 percent. The deal covers distribution of on-demand, full-length feature films, including Up and The Proposal, as well as Pirates of the Caribbean and The Chronicles of Narnia.

"Today’s announcement is a great example of the type of legitimate business solutions we are developing with our partners, in Korea and across the region, to expand the way viewers can connect to the content they want, when they want, and on the platforms they choose.”

Nowcom’s content delivery technology and service currently offers more than 16,000 movie and TV titles. It has a customer base of 17 million users and approximately 5.5 million unique visitors per month to its two download service sites.
