Disney Gears Up for Launch of First Indian Original Production

MUMBAI, September 28: On October 8, Disney Channel in India
will launch its first original live-action series in Hindi, Vicky Aur Vetaal.

The comedy series features the antics of two unlikely heroes
and is a modern-day spin-off of an ancient Indian tale. It is being produced by
the local outfit Cinevistaas Limited and will air every Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

“We seek to strengthen connections
with kids and their families by developing creative, quality local content that
reflects the lives of the local audiences,” said Nicky Parkinson, the SVP and
managing director of Walt Disney Television International (Asia Pacific). “This
major initiative is a strong step forward in establishing Disney Channel
further as a committed local player in this country, and also a reflection of The
Walt Disney Company’s commitment to seeking great creative from the global
marketplace.”

To promote Vicky Aur Vetaal, Disney Channel has launched a multi-platform marketing campaign
involving TV, radio, the Internet and outdoor.

Disney Channel launched in India
on December 17, 2004, as a 24-hour Hindi-language channel. It features a mix of
original programming from Disney Channel in the U.S. as well as local
acquisitions such as Karishma Ka Karishma, Hatim and Hanuman.
