Disney Channel Makes Renewal, New Order

BURBANK: Disney Television Animation has been given a second-season order for the Disney Channel animated comedy Fish Hooks, along with being tapped by the channel for the new comedy series Gravity Falls.

Fish Hooks, led by Noah Z. Jones, is about three tween fish navigating high school. Since its September premiere, the show has tied with Phineas and Ferb as TV’s number one animated series among kids 6 to 11 and tweens 9 to 14. Jones is creator and executive producer. The series is rendered in 2D animation, set against photo-real backdrops.

Gravity Falls is an animated comedy about contemporary twins who are thrown into the mysterious town of Gravity Falls, Oregon. There’s something quite peculiar going on there, and the brother-sister duo must rely on one another to find their way in this unfamiliar town. The series is slated for a spring 2012 premiere on Disney Channel. It was created and will be executive produced by Alex Hirsch.

Eric Coleman, the senior VP of original series at Disney Television Animation, said: "The heart of our work is storytelling, and in these two outstanding projects we have the pleasure and privilege of working with a team of talented artists, in every sense of the word, who are delivering wonderfully imaginative characters and relevant stories to kids and families around the world." He continued, "We’re gratified that viewers have responded so strongly and positively to Fish Hooks, and we believe Gravity Falls, will be a perfect addition to our growing lineup of shows that are fresh, contemporary and custom-made for our audience."
