Disney Channel Inks Carriage Deal with African Pay-TV Platform

LONDON, August 7: Disney
Channel is expanding its reach to Southern and sub-Saharan Africa, securing
carriage on the MultiChoice DStv platform.

Disney launches on the service next month, reaching more
than 1.3 million subscribers. The
channel will be broadcast on DStv channel 82 for 16 hours a day, seven days a
week.

John Hardie, the
executive VP and managing director of Walt Disney Television, EMEA, said of the
carriage deal, “The launch in Africa represents a huge milestone in expanding
Disney to this enormously important developing area. With their expertise in
African markets, our partners DStv offer us the opportunity to make Disney
Channel the leading kids brand across the continent."
