Discovery Appoints New CMO

SILVER SPRING, February 5:
Wonya Y. Lucas has been named as the chief marketing officer at Discovery
Communications following a stint as general manager and executive VP of The
Weather Channel Networks.

Lucas will be based at the
company’s global headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, effective March 24,
reporting to COO Mark Hollinger. As CMO, she will provide company-wide brand
strategy leadership and coordination across Discovery’s global businesses. She
has been with The Weather Channel since 2002, joining as executive VP of marketing
and rising to become general manager and executive VP, with responsibility for
corporate strategy and development, strategic marketing for The Weather Channel
and weather.com, and operations and programming for The Weather Channel, The
Weather Channel HD, Weatherscan, The Weather Channel Radio Network, and
newspaper syndication. She previously held several positions at Turner
Broadcasting System, including senior VP of strategic marketing for CNN
Networks and VP of business operations and network development for TBS, TNT,
Turner Classic Movies and Turner South. Her other experience includes brand
management for The Coca-Cola Company and The Clorox Company.
