TORONTO: DHX Media has landed a third-season commission for its animated preschool series Animal Mechanicals from Canada’s CBC.

This brings the total number of episodes to 73×11 minutes. In each episode, Rex, Unicorn, Komodo, Sasquatch and Mouse leave their island-in-the-sky home on a mission. Animal Mechanicals is produced and distributed by DHX Media, which also handles the licensing and merchandising.

Charles Bishop, the president of DHX Media, said: “Animal Mechanicals has been a huge hit with kids audiences so we’re looking forward to creating super new transformational adventures for them to enjoy. Internationally the series is establishing a presence across television and L&M that will be boosted by its launch on The Hub later this year.”

Kim Wilson, the creative head of children’s programming at CBC, added: "Animal Mechanicals is a consistent top performer for us. Kids love it, and we love that it is such an empowering show for young children. We’re thrilled to be able to add some new episodes to the lineup."
