Defiance Takes Fuqua Films’ Doc on L.A. Street Gangs

NEW YORK, February 14: Defiance Distribution has secured the
exclusive international distribution rights to Fuqua Films’ 97-minute
documentary on L.A. street gangs, Bastards of the Party, which premiered on HBO in the U.S. this month.

Defiance will handle television, video, and select
theatrical distribution worldwide outside of the U.S. It will launch the
property internationally at MIPTV.

Produced by Antoine Fuqua, the director of the Oscar-winning
film Training Day, and directed by Cle
“Bone” Sloan, Bastards of
the Party
chronicles the history of the
street gangs in L.A. It profiles the evolution of two of L.A.’s notorious
street gangs, Bloods and Crips, and looks at a new generation’s search for a
way out of the cycle of inner city violence. Shot in super-16mm film and
transferred to HD, the film is presented in widescreen format and with 5.1
surround sound.

“Antoine has a tremendous track record of true-to-life and
hard-hitting filmmaking, and Bastards of the Party is a great example,” said Jon Loew, the president of
Defiance Distribution. “The gang phenomenon has traveled beyond our borders,
and this film has global relevance.”
