Darlow Smithson Gets Behind Vulcan Doc

LONDON: Production company Darlow Smithson has been commissioned by Channel 4 in the U.K. to produce the one-hour documentary Vulcan Bomber: Mission Impossible (working title).

Vulcan Bomber: Mission Impossible is set to air this fall. Julian Ware, the creative director at Darlow Smithson, executive produced and it was written and directed by Christopher Spencer. Charlotte Surtees is the producer. Endemol Worldwide Distribution holds the worldwide rights and will be selling the finished program internationally.

The doc tells the story of how a crumbling, Cold War-era Vulcan flew the then longest range bombing mission in history with WW2 vintage bombs that changed the outcome of the Falklands War. The mission was flown, even with mechanical failures, unreliable navigation, electrical storms and empty fuel tanks.

Ware said, “Both comic and heroic; Vulcan Bomber: Mission Impossible is a feel-good tale packed with humor, jeopardy and intense drama all played out against a seemingly impossible objective. We expect Channel 4 viewers will enjoy this extraordinary and entertaining story about the Falklands War.”
