Comcast Ramps Up VOD Slate

PHILADELPHIA: Comcast is adding almost 9,000 movie titles to its on-demand lineup, expanding its feature film choices by more than 450 percent.

The cable giant’s On Demand service will now offer more than 11,000 total movie choices to customers monthly, with 3,000 available in HD. The total number of Comcast On Demand choices now stands at more than 25,000. The rollout begins in Comcast’s Xfinity markets in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., before expanding to digital cable customers across the country. The new releases on the VOD lineup include Nine, The Blind Side, The Hangover, The Hurt Locker, Precious and Twilight: New Moon. Also available are classics like Casablanca, The Exorcist, The Godfather and The Blues Brothers.

"It’s the biggest thing we’ve ever done in On Demand," said Derek Harrar, senior VP and general manager of video and entertainment services for Comcast. "We’re revolutionizing our service with a system that is capable of delivering infinite choice. This is another important step in bringing consumers the multiplatform experience they want."
