Comcast, Disney Roll Out New SVOD Service

PHILADELPHIA: Comcast Corporation is set to launch Disney Family Movies, a new SVOD service for its digital customers, in association with Disney-ABC Domestic Television.

The service will showcase classic and contemporary family fare from the substantial Disney library. Customers will have unlimited access to about 20 hours of content each month, including ten Disney feature films and two short-form films, for a monthly fee of $5.99. The titles will remain in rotation for about a month, with new movies added weekly. At launch, the slate includes George of the Jungle, The Parent Trap, Eloise at the Plaza and Treasure Planet.

"For just $5.99 a month, we’re offering unlimited viewing of ten classic Disney movies whenever you want—it’s such a compelling family entertainment value, my daughters offered to take it out of their allowance," said Derek Harrar, the senior VP and general manager of video services for Comcast. "Kids’ and family programming continues to be one of our top On Demand categories, and we are thrilled to continue delivering the best quality content with Disney."
