CANNES: Two Malaysian content companies have sealed co-production partnerships at MIPCOM, the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) has announced.

Animasia Studio is working with Hong Kong’s Agogo International and Spain’s Neptuno Films on the 2D animated action adventure series Kung Fu Chicken, while Ed-Online Technologies has a pact with Singapore’s Scrawl Studios and the U.K.’s Bryant Whittle for the preschool series Red, Yellow & Blue.

Animasia has also tapped Latin Media Corporation to represent its properties in the Latin American and U.S. Hispanic markets, as have Backbone Entertainment and Les’ Copaque.

Kamil Othman, VP for the creative multimedia department at MDeC, noted, "The signing of these two co-production agreements is testament to the strength of the Malaysian animation industry and its world-class studios, facilities and talent. MDeC aims to secure deals for at least five more animation co-productions at the market, worth an estimated $10 million in total. The distribution deals signed by Animasia Studio, Backbone Entertainment and Les’ Copaque further demonstrate that Malaysia is producing high-quality animated content that appeals to a global audience.”

Animasia Studio, Ed-Online Technologies, Backbone Entertainment and Les’ Copaque are MSC Malaysia-status companies brought to MIPCOM by MDeC, the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (SKMM).
