CNNI, YouTube Team for Climate Change Debate

ATLANTA: CNN International is partnering with YouTube for a global, interactive debate to be televised in the run-up to the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December.

CNN viewers worldwide will be invited to submit questions for the hour-long debate, set to air on CNNI on December 16 with live coverage on CNN.com. This is the second collaboration between CNN and YouTube, which previously partnered for an interactive debate for last year’s U.S. Presidential election. The new initiative comes as YouTube launches the “Raise Your Voice” channel, devoted to getting users’ views around December’s Climate Conference. Through the channel, users will be able to contribute their own opinions and questions, some of which will be answered by a panel of experts at the debate. Questions can also be submitted via CNN’s website.

“Our worldwide viewers are very vocal on climate change and want a voice, this debate format gives them,” said Katherine Green, the senior VP of programming at CNNI.  “CNN’s environmental related programming allows us to capture and dissect this initiative for a global audience – and analyze what governments, businesses and individuals around the world are doing in the face of public concern.”
