NEW YORK: News Corporation is said to be considering placing Chase Carey in Rupert Murdoch’s CEO role.

According to Bloomberg, the board at News Corp. has discussed promoting Carey—currently the deputy chairman, president and COO—to CEO, in place of Murdoch. Murdoch would reportedly retain his duties as chairman.

Carey has served as COO at News Corp. since 2009.

No official announcement has been made, and the decision will apparently rest on the assessment of Murdoch’s performance in front of the Commons culture committee.

According to Reuters, the board "totally supports" Murdoch. "We’re united behind him," said a source.

Meanwhile, James Murdoch’s position at BSkyB has been thrown into doubt, as well as his position at News Corp., according to multiple reports.
