TORONTO: The Shaftesbury documentary projects Who’s Sorry Now? and Why Men Cheat have been picked up by Canada’s CBC and will be on offer for buyers at MIPCOM.

Both documentaries, written and directed by Gemini award-winning director Marc de Guerre (Gamer Revolution, The Disappearing Male), will air on CBC’s Doc Zone in Canada. Who’s Sorry Now? is in post-production and will premiere on CBC in February 2012 and Why Men Cheat will begin production in early 2012.

Who’s Sorry Now? focuses on the regret of public figures that comes about when a “crisis control specialist” spins the apology in an effort to “protect the brand” and salvage the image of their client. Why Men Cheat explores why powerful men endanger marriages, reputations and careers for risky affairs. The documentary looks at why powerful men believe they’re immune to the rules, but research also finds that powerful women are just as likely to cheat.

“With these projects helmed by the provocative documentarian Marc de Guerre, Shaftesbury Factual is making its mark with relevant and edgy pop culture storytelling that provides insight into contemporary issues,” said Rachel Low, the VP of factual entertainment at Shaftesbury. “Both documentaries explore basic human urges, while putting them in a larger social context that will no doubt be relevant to audiences in many countries around the world.”

“Both these documentaries are hallmark Doc Zone productions,” added Michael Claydon, the CBC commissioning editor of the strand. “They combine the social with the psychological in a fun, easy to watch manner. Marc is a master at bringing together compelling stories and big ideas.”
