Cartoon Network Celebrates Tenth Powerpuff Anniversary

ATLANTA, January 7: The
Powerpuff Girls
, one of the first
original series on Cartoon Network, turns ten this year, and the channel is
celebrating that milestone with a brand-new special, due to air on January 19.

The Powerpuff Girls
Rule!!!
, a 30-minute special with
Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup, will broadcast on January 19 at 8 p.m. The
episode—the first new one for the three superhero-sisters since
2004—was written and directed by creator Craig McCracken and produced at
Cartoon Network Studios by the same team currently producing Foster's Home
for Imaginary Friends
.

Preceding the special will
be a 14-hour marathon of the series' best episodes, as chosen by McCracken.

"What started as a
clever seven-minute student film, The Powerpuff Girls helped establish Cartoon Network as a creative
force around the world," said Rob Sorcher, the chief content officer of
Cartoon Network. "Today, Cartoon Network celebrates ten years of the
now-iconic brand and the brilliance of Craig McCracken, who continues to bring
us the classic cartoons of tomorrow."

The anniversary will also
be celebrated with a six-DVD boxed set, The Complete Powerpuff Girls
Anniversary Collector's Set
, from
Warner Home Video. It features 78 episodes, as well as a documentary with Craig
McCracken, T'was the Fight Before Christmas Movie. Other extras include commentaries, series promos,
music videos and more.
