Canis to Sell Setanta’s Sky Slots

LONDON: Nine channel slots on BSkyB previously occupied by Setanta Sports are being put up for sale, with Canis Media appointed to handle the auction.

Setanta Sports shuttered its operations last month, and its administrator, Deloitte, appointed Canis Media to oversee the sale of the channel slots, which, according to the MediaGuardian, could fetch up to £1 million. They were previously used to carry the Setanta News, Setanta Golf, Racing UK, Racing World, Arsenal, Celtic and Rangers TV channels.

"Sports broadcasters should obviously be looking very closely at the EPG to see how a channel move could help them," Ed Hall, the chief executive of Canis Media, told the Guardian. "Other broadcasters should look carefully, too, as these positions can potentially be moved to other genres, subject to agreement with BSkyB. There are numerous positions available, but the clock is ticking."
