Canale 5 in Italy Takes on Endemol Game Show Format

HILVERSUM, March 20:
Endemol Italy has licensed the popular game show format 1 vs. 100 to Mediaset-owned broadcaster Canale 5 for premiere
on May 7 in prime-time.

The format has now been
licensed to broadcasters in over 20 countries worldwide, including BBC One in
the U.K., NBC in the U.S., and RTP1 in Portugal. In the U.K., BBC One recently
aired the second season of the series, attracting audiences of up to 6.8
million and a 29.6 percent audience share. In Australia, Endemol Southern
Star’s version premiered this year on the Nine Network, consistently leading in
its prime-time slot with a peak of 2.4 million viewers. Portugal rolled a new
series of 1 vs. 100 (Um
Contra Todos)
to mark its 50th
anniversary at the beginning of March.

The standard
version of 1 vs. 100 pits one player against 100 opponents.
The player’s goal is to eliminate all the opposition by correctly answering
questions, in the hopes that their opponents will answer incorrectly and be
eliminated from the game.

Mike Morley, the senior
executive director of commercial and creative affairs at Endemol International,
commented: “1 vs. 100 now looks
set to chase Deal Or No Deal as
Endemol’s next breakaway hit. It’s
pulling in big audiences in the USA, the U.K., the Netherlands, Portugal,
Australia and France to name just a few.
This format has a lot more surprises in store and we’ve now created some
brilliant spin offs and variations which will be hitting the market very soon.”
