Canadian Treatment of Wipeout Under Way

TORONTO: TVtropolis and Lone Eagle Entertainment are searching for Canadian contestants to compete on the world’s largest obstacle course for the local version of the hit format Wipeout.

Wipeout Canada will be hosted by Jonathan Torrens (TV with TV’s Jonathan Torrens, Trailer Park Boys) and Ennis Esmer (The Listener). Model and actress Jessica Phillips will serve as co-host. The show is slated to debut on TVtropolis in spring 2011. Wipeout Canada will give 20 contestants in each episode the chance to compete over four rounds of competition, with the winner taking home a C$50,000 grand prize.

The Wipeout format is licensed to Lone Eagle Entertainment and is distributed in Canada by Disney and internationally by Endemol.

"We’re looking for daring, thrill-seeking Canadians who believe they have the skill to compete in Wipeout’s extremely challenging course," said Karen Gelbart, the senior VP of content for lifestyle channels at Canwest Broadcasting. “The program is wildly successful worldwide and we’re thrilled to have our own Canadian version."

"Game on, Canada! If you think you have what it takes, let us know!" added Michael Geddes, the executive producer for Lone Eagle Entertainment.
