Canadian Actors Dispute Heads to Court

MONTREAL, January 23: The final effort to end the strike
involving 21,000 film, TV and radio staffers in Canada has failed, with the
dispute heading to the courts today.

The Canadian Film and Television Production Association
(CFTPA) is seeking a court order on the legality of the two-week long strike.
This follows meetings yesterday with the Alliance of Canadian Cinema,
Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) and a mediator. The two parties were
unable to come up with a resolution. The main issue of contention is ACTRA’s
demand that new media production fees be increased by 50 percent.
