CAKE Lands Deals on Cartoon Gene

LONDON: CAKE Entertainment has licensed the live-action tween comedy series Cartoon Gene to the BBC and Germany’s ZDF.

The pickups follow on a successful pilot produced last year by Galakids. Canada’s TELETOON, which licensed the original pilot, is also considering signing on for the full series. Cartoon Gene marks CAKE’s foray into live action. The series follows the life of a teenage boy named Gene, who possesses cartoon DNA. His mom is a computer-generated action game star and is dad is a computer geek.

Genevieve Dexter, a partner and commercial director at CAKE, said, “Cartoon Gene has marked a new phase for CAKE in terms of the kind of kids programming that we are involved with—from editorial development through to distribution—and we are really excited about this deal. Entertaining and original shows like this reinforce our established position as a meeting place for a growing family of producers of high-end children’s content.”
