PREMIUM: Luminita Boerescu, the selection and programming coordinator at TVR Romania, says she’s on the lookout for high-quality films and documentaries to fulfill her buying needs.

Boerescu programs across six channels: TVR1 is a general-service channel covering all of Romania, while TVR2 reaches 98 percent of the territory but aims for a younger, urban audience. TVR3 features the best of the terrestrial programs, TVR Cultural provides cultural news as well as arts documentaries and TVR Info is a news service. There’s also TVR International, airing mainly Romanian programs for those living abroad.

What target demographics do you buy for?

As we are public television and we have six channels, we are trying to capture the interest of all the public, especially the young and active ones. 

How does this affect what you are looking for with acquisitions?

This affects us in a positive way because we have to provide high-quality and very interesting programs.

What are some of the acquired programs that have performed best for the channel?

Korean historical family drama series. The Korean historical family drama series broadcast by us include Jewel in the Palace, Damo: The Legendary Police Woman, Lee San: Wind of the Palace and The Legendary Doctor Hur Jun. We are broadcasting now Dong Yi: Jewel in the Crown. The series Jumong: Prince of the Legend had a big audience, rating more than 4.3 with a market share of 10.7 percent.

What genres do you usually look to buy for?

Good films.

What are you on the lookout for right now?

We are looking for all kinds of programs, but films and documentaries are best.

How is the market in general for acquisitions right now?
It’s a good market for library acquisitions, because there are few new interesting programs.

Are there any overall trends that you’ve noticed?
In terms of the market and what performs well, it’s high-quality films and documentaries.
