Brightcove Launches British Operation

LONDON, July 12: Internet
TV service Brightcove has opened an office in London to manage its expanding
business in Europe, which includes a deal announced today to distribute
ad-supported online channels from BET Networks in the British market.

"Consumers in Europe
are amongst the world's most tech-savvy and are embracing the transformation
that's taking place in the television industry today," said Jeremy
Allaire, the chairman and CEO of Brightcove. "The Internet is changing the
way video content is distributed and this has a direct impact for mainstream
media companies looking for new opportunities to grow audiences as well as
opening up new revenue streams for both media owners and advertisers. Bringing
our multi-layered approach to Internet TV to Europe gives media owners in the
region the highest degree of choice and control over the distribution and
monetization of their Internet video content."

The opening of
Brightcove's London office follows the adoption of its Internet TV platform by
several companies in the U.K., including BSkyB, Sony BMG UK, Emap and IPC
Media. "Sony BMG's relationship with Brightcove already brings on-demand
access to music videos, interviews and behind the scenes footage to consumers
in the U.S.," said Alex Vlassopulos, the business development manager of
digital at Sony BMG U.K. "Extending this partnership to the U.K. will provide
consumers here with an immersive online video experience, and enables us to
generate advertising revenues as well as managing how our content is
distributed across the web via social networking and syndication sites."

BET Networks, meanwhile,
is using Brightcove to distribute ad-supported Internet video channels in the
U.K. via BETonBlast.co.uk. BET will also take advantage of Brightcove's viral
promotion features to enable consumers to share and embed BET Internet video
content on websites, blogs and social networks in the U.K. All Internet video
channels will also offer online advertising opportunities sold by Viacom Brand
Solutions. "We're excited to continue building the BET brand around the
world, and with the launch of our beta broadband site in the U.K., users can
get an early taste of our forthcoming multiplatform offering that's set to
debut later this year," said Michael D. Armstrong, BET International’s
senior VP and general manager. "We're also looking forward to working with
Brightcove, whose technology allows us to tap into the power of Internet video,
while maintaining control over the quality of the viewing experience and the
revenue potential of our video content."

BETonBlast.co.uk, set to
launch later this summer, will include content focused on the most popular
Black music, lifestyle, news, fashion, entertainment and community issues of
the day.
