Breakthrough Producing Comedy Pilot for Showcase

TORONTO: Breakthrough Films & Television has started production on the comedy pilot Single White Spenny, starring Spencer Rice of Kenny vs. Spenny, for Showcase in Canada.

Single White Spenny follows the dating misadventures of Rice, who is co-creator for the series and loosely based the show on his own life. Done in improv style, Single White Spenny is executive produced by Breakthrough’s Ira Levy and Peter Williamson (Less Than Kind, Kenny vs. Spenny), along with executive producer and director comedian David Steinberg, who directed such hits as Seinfeld, Mad About You and Curb Your Enthusiasm. The show is co-created by Stevie Ray Fromstein, the writer/producer of the ABC hit shows Roseanne and Two Guys and a Girl.

"Spencer is very funny and talented," said Steinberg. "It is great working with him, the Breakthrough team and Stevie Ray Fromstein, who told me I gave him his start, although I had no memory of that whatsoever."

"We are thrilled to have received the go-ahead from Showcase to put Single White Spenny to pilot, and to have this opportunity to work with the likes of David Steinberg and Stevie Ray Fromstein as well as expand our creative association with Spencer Rice," added Levy.
