Breakthrough Begins Development on New Animated Comedies

TORONTO, April 10: Breakthrough Animation has begun
developing two new animated series targeted to the 18-to-35-year-old
demographic: the 26×30-minute dark comedy The Orphanage, and the 26×5-minute pop-culture satire Foolz
‘N The Hood,
with both series available for
broadcast, broadband and mobile platform formats at MIPTV.

The Orphanage,
developed with CBC, satirizes pop culture and is a dark comedy that features
“freak” orphans who desperately try to get adopted while they torment each
other. The series is a Breakthrough Animation production in association with
The Orphanage Inc.

Foolz ‘N The Hood is
an adult animated series about two suburban teens named Hector and Iceberg, who
both follow the philosophy that “jobs are for chumps and work is for suckers.”
They believe that the only way to become billionaires is to make it as the next
great gangsta rappers. It is a Breakthrough Animation production in association
with Unplugged Productions Inc. At MIPTV, Breakthrough Animation will be
seeking development partners for the series and will be offering it for
pre-sale.

“We are thrilled to offer our growing catalogue of quality
adult animation to international broadcasters at MIPTV,” said Kevin Gillis, the
executive producer and managing partner of Breakthrough Animation. “With the
current global demand for this genre of programming, we are confident that The
Orphanage
and Foolz ‘N The Hood will attract a comedy savvy and commercially
important audience.”
