CANNES: Comedienne Margaret Cho is in Cannes with Beyond Distribution this week to promote her new stand-up special Cho Dependent.

The 83-minute special was filmed in Atlanta and sees the Asian-American comedienne opening up about variety of topics. "It’s my sixth [stand-up special]," Cho told World Screen Newsflash in Cannes today. "It introduces some of my music. It’s been a really fun tour."

Cho’s brand of humor, revolving around issues of sexuality, race, gender and other taboo topics, intends to "challenge the status quo," she says. "When you’re able to be honest with people, that’s really valuable."

The comedienne, who also stars in the Lifetime series Drop Dead Diva, is an avid fan of stand-up comedy. "I try to perform as much as I can. It’s like a new toy [for me] even though I’ve been doing it for a long time."

Cho has traveled across Europe and recently had a successful show in Australia. She’d like to soon take her act to Asia. "I want to play Korea. That’s something I need to do. All of Asia I need to do."
