BBC Worldwide Scores First Drama Commission in Latin America

BUENOS AIRES: BBC Worldwide is to produce its first drama in Latin America, Los Sonicos, for Canal Nueve in Argentina.

Canal Nueve will co-produce the series alongside BBC Worldwide and GP Media. The series follows a famous Argentine rock band as they approach the height of their career in the late ’60s. The hard-partying group is involved in a serious car accident, with the lead singer slipping into a coma at the age of 27. Fast-forward 43 years, when he miraculously awakes. His physical age is 70, though he still possesses the mind and vigor of his 27-year-old self.

Gareth Williams, the senior VP of content and production for South America at BBC Worldwide, commented, “This project illustrates the unique and bespoke programs BBC Worldwide can offer locally to Latin American broadcasters. Seeing our first drama series commissioned in Latin America is so exciting, and our partners at GP Media have done an outstanding job forming a strong cast and creating a moving, captivating story. Canal Nueve have been an excellent partner throughout this process, and we’re both eager to debut this new series to viewers in Argentina.”
