BBC Worldwide Opens Brazilian Production Office

NEW YORK, January 18: BBC Worldwide is looking to further boost its format business in Latin America, setting up a new production outfit in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The operation will seek to ramp up the local production of BBC and independent formats for networks across Latin America. BBC Worldwide’s Dancing with the Stars has already been licensed to TVN in Chile and is currently in production in Argentina with Artear and SBT Channel Four in Brazil. The office will also drive the expanding TV distribution business in the region as well as looking into new business including digital media.

“We are talking to local production companies in the region about possible partnerships,” commented Wayne Garvie, the director of content and production at BBC Worldwide. “In the future we will also be looking to produce local scripted productions and in time create ideas that will be transferable to other territories.”

Jose Sanchez, BBC Worldwide’s VP for Latin America, noted, “Brazil is one of the fastest growing economies in Latin America and we believe that with the right people and our market knowledge we can create extensive opportunities.”
