BBC Worldwide Names Digital Media Director

LONDON, June 13: Simon Danker has been named director of
digital media at BBC Worldwide, leading a team that is exploring opportunities
for BBC programming online and on mobile phones.

Reporting to David Moody, BBC Worldwide's managing director
of digital media and director of strategy, Danker’s brief will include the
development of BBC Worldwide's iPlayer, a commercial version of the BBC's
proposed iPlayer, which would allow people to download television and radio
programs via the Internet.

“New distribution platforms will give audiences what they
really want—access on-demand to an unprecedented choice of programming,”
Danker commented. “The quality and breadth of BBC Worldwide's catalogue, and
our global reputation as a distributor, means we are in a great position to
work with platform owners and producers to generate new income streams in this
space.”

Danker has been with BBC Worldwide since 2000. He was most
recently director of the U.K. and Ireland TV in the company’s global sales
division. His successor is Lisa Cfas, currently the head of business affairs in
the Independents unit and children's.
