BBC Worldwide Locks in LatAm Drama Deal Ahead of L.A. Screenings

LONDON: In the run-up to its attendance at the L.A. Screenings, BBC Worldwide has secured a deal with Film & Arts Latin America, a Pramer network, for a range of drama titles.

The deal includes the first season of Misfits, which follows the lives of five unruly teens who are forced into community service as payback for the crimes they committed. Also in the raft of titles were the second season of Ashes to Ashes, the film The Haunted Airman, the mystery drama The Sally Lockhard Mysteries and two Dickins mini-series: Oliver Twist and David Copperfield.

Helen Jurado, the VP of television sales and distribution for BBC Worldwide Latin America, said: “This is an excellent deal with Film & Arts that illustrates the enthusiasm Latin American broadcasters and audiences have for first-class British dramas.” Jurado continued, “We have a number of captivating programs from all genres to present at this year’s L.A. Screenings; some will make you swoon, like the romantic, mystery series Zen; some will spark your curiosity, like Frozen Planet and Earth Under Water; and others will have you hiding under the covers, like spooky drama series Bedlam.”

At the L.A. Screenings, BBC Worldwide will present screenings of the new Torchwood: Miracle Day for international clients. Other L.A. Screenings highlights include the dramas The Fades, Bedlam and Zen: Italian Detective, as well as the children’s series Me & My Monsters and Sadie J. In the way of natural history comes Frozen Planet and Nature’s Miracles, alongside the science titles Rare Anatomy and Earth Under Water. History fare includes Egypt: What Lies Beneath. Arctic with Bruce Parry leads off the doc slate.
