BBC Worldwide Channels Makes Two Asian Appointments

SINGAPORE: BBC Worldwide Channels in Asia has promoted Ryan Shiotani to VP and Daphne Kang to director of programming.

In his new role, Shiotani will lead strategic programming efforts for BBC Knowledge, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Entertainment and CBeebies in Asia. He will also be responsible for scheduling, production and presentation, and working toward strengthening the performance of existing channels while working with the distribution team to provide the editorial strategy to grow the network portfolio in Asia.

As director of programming, Kang will manage programming and presentation for BBC’s slate of channels in Asia.

Mark Whitehead, the senior VP and general manager of BBC Worldwide Channels in Asia, commented of the promotions: “Both Ryan and Daphne have been key players in our Asian business since its launch in 2007 and have been instrumental in the channel’s performance in Asia. They were also pivotal to the successful launch of BBC Entertainment in India in January this year. In their new roles, they will provide greater leadership to their teams, and ensure the correct programming strategy, focus and ambition is in place to grow our business.”
