BBC Showcase Latin America Returns to Rio De Janeiro

NEW YORK, August 7: The fourth annual BBC Showcase Latin
America is set for the JW Marriot Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, September
16–18, with more than 200 executives from Latin American and U.S.
Hispanic broadcasters slated to attend.

“Growing all of BBC Worldwide’s businesses in Latin America
is a major priority for the company,” said Steve Macallister, the managing
director of global television sales for BBC Worldwide. “The past year has seen
a steady increase in demand for our programs and formats in the region, and we
plan to drive that trend further still with our unique Showcase event.”

More than 400 hours of content will be on offer, including
drama, entertainment, current affairs, natural history, science, children’s and
science genres. Key titles include Animalia, a 40×22-minute animated children’s series; DinoSapien, a 15×25-minute adventure series done in association
with Discovery Kids and CBBC; Jekyll, a 6×50-minute thriller; Primeval (6×50 minutes or 2×120 minutes), an Impossible Pictures drama for ITV,
ProSieben and M6; Doctor Frankenstein, a 95-minute drama that projects humanity’s darkest fears in gothic
form; and SuperStorm, a
3×50-minute look at scientists attempt to control the weather. Notable
natural-history titles include Ganges
(3×40 minutes) and Wild China (6×50 minutes). In history shows, The Wild West (3×50 minutes) examines the stories of heroism, outlaws and justice
from that time and Warriors (6×50
minutes) tells the stories of men who shaped the world around them, including
Spartacus, Napoleon and Hernan Cortez, among others.

Formats are another priority at
the Showcase, including the reality and competition shows Dance X, Panic
Room
and Street Doctor; and the game shows Question of Sport and The People’s Quiz, plus the scripted format The Office.

Buyers already confirmed to attend include Canal Futura, En
Pantalla, Globosat, Globo TV, HBO Ole, LA Tele, Pramer, SBT, TCTV Ecuador, TV
UNAM, Televisa, Visat and V-ME.
