LONDON: Initial, an Endemol company, has been tapped to produce Don’t Scare the Hare for BBC One, which will air the family game show on Saturday nights.

Each episode combines comedy, tension and slapstick. Two teams of contestants take on each other, as well as a 4-foot tall fully animatronic robot Hare. The teams must avoid scaring him as the complete a series of funny physical and mental challenges. The tasks have been specifically designed to give the Hare a fright.

Production on nine-part series is already under way in Scotland. The show will run as an 8×40-minute series with a 1×40-minute "best of" compilation show.

Nick Mather, the head of entertainment at Endemol UK, said: “Don’t Scare the Hare is an innovative new format and it’s hugely exciting to be making this large scale studio show for BBC One. The series will be packed with comedic moments for the whole family—and so far host Jason Bradbury and our robotic Hare are getting on like a house on fire.”

Alan Tyler, the executive editor for BBC Entertainment, added: “Don’t Scare the Hare cleverly captures the spirit and fun of interactive family videogames that has been sweeping the nation. We’re excited about bringing this experimental new format to early Saturday evenings on BBC One. And it seems like a perfect fit that this new show should be first to use the brand new studios at MediaCityUK in Salford.”
