Bavaria Media Scores with Buddenbrooks

MUNICH/CANNES: Bavaria Media locked in a number of deals at MIPTV for, among other titles, the TV version of Heinrich Breloer’s Buddenbrooks: The Decline of a Family.

The two-part adaptation of Thomas Mann’s famous novel is set for broadcast in some 13 countries. Deals are under way with buyers from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Russia, Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and French-speaking Canada. In combination with its theatrical release, Buddenbrooks will be seen in more than 20 territories.

Bavaria Media also sold 39 episodes of Circle of Life to YLE in Finland, while Spanish crime series Génesis landed a pay-TV deal, covering 14 Eastern European territories. The telenovela Storm of Love continued to deliver strong sales. "All current deals for this series have now been extended," said Oliver Kreuter, the head of television for Bavaria Media. "Storm of Love will continue to catch the attention of millions of television viewers all over Europe."

"Despite the official decline in attendance figures at MIPTV, we did great business in Cannes," Kreuter added. "Our long-term business relationships with many international buyers are paying off."
