TORONTO: Veena Sud, former executive producer on CBS’s Cold Case, is set to present a special master class at this year’s Banff World Media Festival, where she will discuss her new crime drama, The Killing, which debuts this April on AMC.

Based on the successful Danish series Forbrydelsen, The Killing weaves together three distinct stories around a single murder, including the detectives assigned to the case and their suspects, the victim’s grieving family and the local politicians connected to the case. Produced by Fox Television Studios in association with AMC, The Killing stars Mireille Enos (Big Love), Billy Campbell (Once and Again), Joel Kinnaman (Snabba Cash), Michelle Forbes (True Blood), and Brent Sexton (W., In the Valley of Elah). The Killing will debut with a two-hour premiere on AMC on April 3 at 9 p.m.

"Halfway through shooting season one of The Killing, it is obvious to AMC what has clearly been obvious to fans and everyone associated with Cold Case—Veena Sud is a consummate showrunner," said Joe Stillerman, AMC’s commissioner. "She has the vision and passion for the material combined with the extraordinary managerial skills and laser focus needed to run a show. She writes great characters, weaves plot brilliantly, knows how to create emotional intensity, and really understands story."

"We are excited to be spotlighting the tremendous talent of Veena Sud in our in Banff Master Classes,” added Ferne Cohen, the executive director of the festival. "With the success of Cold Case and a new project with AMC on the way, we look forward to Ms. Sud sharing her insights.”
