Apple Mulls Online Film Rental Service

CUPERTINO, June 11: According
to the Financial Times, Apple is in advanced discussions with the major
Hollywood studios about launching an online film rental service.

Apple already offers several
features from the likes of Disney and Paramount on a download-to-own basis from
its iTunes Store. The new service being considered would deliver movies for
$2.99 for a 30-day rental period. The service aims to compete with VOD services
from cable operators, and with online movie rental companies like Netflix.
Apple is said to be eyeing a fall launch for the new offering.
