Al Jazeera English Receives Permission to Broadcast in Singapore

DOHA, December 6: The Media Development Authority has
granted Al Jazeera English, the Middle East-based English-language news and
current affairs channel, permission to broadcast in Singapore.

The Media Development Authority approved SingTel's
application for Al Jazeera English early this month, and the channel will be
available on the IPTV service mioTV in Singapore in the coming weeks. Al
Jazeera English features a mix of news, documentaries, live debates,
entertainment, business and sports programming.

Headquartered in Qatar with broadcast centers in Kuala
Lumpur, Doha, London and Washington, D.C., Al Jazeera English airs to more than
100 million households globally.

"We are very encouraged that Al Jazeera English has
been granted a license in Singapore by the Media Development Authority, and
look forward to bringing our brand of ground-breaking news to the country,”
said Phil Lawrie, Al Jazeera English's head of global distribution. “This is
yet another positive step in our global expansion efforts, one that should
offer us interesting new opportunities in Singapore.”
