Al Jazeera English Launches in Argentina

DOHA, June 11: The Middle
East-based English-language news channel Al Jazeera English is now available in
Argentina via cable operators Multicanal and CableVisión.

This agreement brings Al
Jazeera English to more than 300,000 new
households. The English-language channel launched in November 2006 and is now
available in more than 113 million households worldwide. Al Jazeera
English’s dedicated page on YouTube is home to the website’s most-watched news
channel internationally, with 21 million videos viewed since its launch in
April 2007. The channel’s Buenos Aires bureau is headed by the Edward R. Morrow
Award-winning journalist Lucia Newman.

Al Jazeera English is the
first English-language global news and current affairs channel to be
headquartered in the Middle East.

Phil Lawrie, Al Jazeera
Network’s director of global distribution, said: "This exciting new launch
carries Al Jazeera English’s unique brand of journalism to a sizeable new
audience in Latin America. This new distribution in the region complements the
channel’s pioneering reporting from Latin America and right across the ‘global
south’.”

Multicanal and CableVisión
launched their digital cable service in April 2007 to offer their customers
more than 100 channels. Multicanal and CableVisión are also operators of
Internet television, and have additional services across Argentina, Uruguay and
Paraguay.
