ABC Family Adds to The Cutting Edge Franchise

BURBANK: Francia Raisa and Brendan Fehr have signed to star in the ABC Family and MGM Television original production The Cutting Edge: Fire & Ice, the fourth installment in the franchise.

The two-hour original movie will begin principal photography this month in Montreal, Canada, and is set to premiere on ABC Family in spring 2010. In The Cutting Edge: Fire & Ice, Raisa (The Secret Life of the American Teenager) returns to her role as Alexandra “Alex” Delgado, whose figure-skating career came to an abrupt stop after her partner became injured. James Van Behr (Fehr, Samurai Girl), the bad boy of speed skating, comes on as her partner. They begin a grueling practice regimen, which is fueled—and often derailed—by their own tempestuous relationship.

The franchise started with the 1992 feature The Cutting Edge. Following the direct-to-video sequel The Cutting Edge: Going for Gold, the franchise headed to TV with ABC Family’s 2008 movie The Cutting Edge: Chasing a Dream.
