Telefe Reports MIPTV Deals

BUENOS AIRES: Telefe International shored up a slew of deals at MIPTV for titles from across its portfolio, including signing several agreements with Asian clients for its telenovelas.

The company closed a deal in the Philippines for The Successful Mr. and Mrs. Pells, and licensed three titles into Japan: Taking Lives, Don Juan and His Fair Lady and Forever Julia. It also secured slots for The Successful Mr. and Mrs. Pells and Taking Lives in Vietnam with a new network launching this year. A Malaysian pay-TV network acquired the format to produce its own version of the telenovela Yago, Pure Passion. And the short-form series Trick or Treat with the Magic Hands was licensed into India, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

In Africa, Montecristo will be adapted in Morocco, Algiers and Tunisia. In Western Europe, Telefe secured options on several fiction formats: Montecristo and Taking Lives for Spain, Pretenders and Detectives, Brothers & Co for France and The Roldans for France and Italy. Montecristo is under development in Italy for broadcast this year and the pilot of Detectives, Brothers & Co is almost complete, for carriage on a Mediaset channel. Meanwhile, in Eastern Europe, the new telenovela Legacy of Passion has been sold to several countries, such as Georgia, Israel and Bulgaria. And a Turkish company has optioned the game show The Legacy.
