New Doc to Spotlight Britain’s Snowfall

LONDON: Pioneer Productions has received a fast-track commission from Channel 4 for an hour-long documentary looking at this month’s unusual snowfall in the U.K.

Tentatively titled Snowstorm: Britain’s Big Freeze, the project follows the devastation brought on by the largest snowfall in 18 years in the country. The film uses a combination of archive footage and interviews with scientists and meteorologists to examine the unusual weather. It will also look to answer the question of whether the snow was a freak occurence or part of a decade-long cycle of great storms. The documentary will air on Channel 4 on February 26.

Stuart Carter, the managing director of Pioneer Productions, said: "Pioneer has the expertise needed to take on this kind of subject, demonstrated by our strong heritage in science and weather-based programming. The production is topical and important to understanding how we cope with the environment and is exactly the kind of factual documentary that we pride ourselves on making."

Hamish Mykura, the head of documentaries for Channel 4, added: "I’m delighted to have commissioned this enjoyable film that tells the whole story of this February’s blizzards."
