Home Box Office Takes Majority Control of Asian JV

SINGAPORE, January 16: Home Box Office has acquired majority
control of HBO Asia, previously jointly owned by HBO, NBC Universal, Paramount Pictures
and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

Under the new ownership structure, HBO Asia is now
controlled by HBO and Paramount. The company said the move is in line with
HBO’s overall international expansion, and positions HBO Asia for further
growth in the region. The venture has output deals with Columbia/TriStar, NBC
Universal, Paramount/DreamWorks and Warner Bros., among others. Reaching 22
countries, HBO Asia operates the flagship HBO network, as well as Cinemax,
three HBO multiplexes and an on-demand offer.
