Animax Heads to Europe

LONDON, April 11: Sony Pictures Television International
(SPTI) is bringing its anime channel Animax to Central Europe by rebranding the
existing A+ network, which SPTI acquired last year, and is in advanced
negotiations to take the service to key European markets like the U.K. and
Germany.

A+ is a dedicated anime channel, targeted at 15-to-29 year
olds, in Hungary, Romania, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The channel will
relaunch with a new on-air look. Current top-rated shows on A+ such as Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, Gravitation
and Trigun will be complemented later
in the year with additional anime from SPTI’s portfolio. Programming will continue to be aired between 8
p.m. and 2 a.m. daily. Later this year, SPTI will provide further information
about additional programming and time slots.

For the rest of the region, SPTI says that negotiations are
at an advanced stage in the U.K., Germany, Italy, Spain and France.

Animax currently reaches 36 million homes in 38 countries in
Asia and Latin America.
