Nominees Announced for Rose d’Or Festival

LONDON, March 15: At an
event in London today, the nominees were announced for the upcoming 47th
edition of the Rose d’Or Festival, set for May 5 to 9 in Lucerne.

This is the festival’s
first year under its new owners, Freddy Burger Management, and new MD, Urban
Frye.

A total of 358 programs
were entered into this year’s competition by 155 companies in 32 countries.
From those, 64 have been selected to compete in the following categories: Show,
Reality, Comedy, Sitcom, Soap, Performing Arts, and Arts Documentary. An
additional eight programs have been nominated in the Opera Special Prize
category

In comedy, the nominees
include BBC’s Tittybangbang, Five’s
Perfect Day—The Millennium,
FremantleMedia’s That Mitchell & Webb Look, NBC Universal’s 30 Rock and VARA’s Shouf Shouf! The Series.

In the reality category, Dragon’s
Den
is a contender, alongside
Channel 4’s The Search, Kanakna
Productions’ India Celebrity Express and Strix’s All for One,
among others.

The BBC’s How do You
Solve a Problem Like Maria?
is up
for contention in the Show category with such titles as Cuatro Cabezas’s Caiga
Quien Caiga
and Korean
Broadcasting System’s Sponge,
alongside a slate of other shows from Europe.

The six soap opera
contenders range from EastEnders and
The Bill in the U.K. to two
properties from Antenna TV: Joanna of the Heart and The Knives of Love.

In the arts documentary
category, a host of British productions, such as Simon Schama’s Power of
Art: Bernini
and The Singing
Estate
, are in the running with
the likes of NHK’s Silk Road 2005.
