NGCI Launches Four-Part Series on Indigenous Cultures

WASHINGTON D.C., February 21: National
Geographic Channels International (NGCI) has launched Light at the Edge of
the World
, a four-part series on indigenous
cultures hosted by author Wade Davis.

Light at the Edge of the
World
follows Davis, an anthropologist,
writer and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, from the foothills of the
Himalayas to the tundra of the Northern Arctic as he explores how four
indigenous cultures adapt to preserve their unique heritage. The Hunters
of the Northern Ice
episode focuses on the
Inuit of Northern Canada who must battle shrinking ice in order to safeguard
their ancient traditions; Science of the Mind chronicles Davis’ trek through Nepal as he meets
with some of Buddhism’s most influential thought leaders; The Wayfinders
episode looks at the erosion of the
once-flourishing Polynesian culture; and in Sacred Geography, Davis concentrates on the ancient pan-Andean
culture in South America that continues to thrive despite adversity.

“We know that native cultures
pay a high price for modernization and globalization, but less is known about
how they are finding ways to not only survive, but thrive,” said Sydney Suissa,
the EVP of content for NGCI. “Light at the Edge of the World epitomizes the National Geographic brand with its
stunning imagery and compelling narration.”
