Fox Subpoenas YouTube Over Pirated Content

LOS ANGELES, January 25: The U.S. District Court for the
Northern District of California has granted a subpoena, served to YouTube by
Twentieth Century Fox, seeking the identity of a user who uploaded illegal
copies of 24 and The Simpsons.

According to wire reports, the subpoena was filed on January
18 and relates in part to the four episodes of 24 that appeared on the Google-owned file sharing site in advance of their
January 14 and 15 premiere on FOX. The user, known as ECOTotal, also uploaded
12 episodes of The Simpsons. Fox
apparently became aware of the illegal content on the site on January 8. The
content has reportedly been removed from YouTube and ECOTotal’s account has
been suspended.
