LOS GATOS: Netflix, which earlier this week lowered its forecasts for subscription gains this year, today announced that its membership base has topped the 30 million mark.

The company now has more than 25 million customers in the U.S. The service is also available in some 50 territories around the world, including Canada, and in Latin America and Europe—most recently rolling out in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.

In a Facebook post today, Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings, thanked the company’s subscribers, noting, "your choice to be a Netflix member helps us to get more content every year and helps us further improve the Netflix experience. You make it possible for us to create the most amazing Internet television experience ever."

Announcing its Q3 financials Tuesday, Netflix said it expected to add between 4.7 million and 5.4 million members in 2012, down from the previous forecast of 7 million.
